Title: Hi from Carmarthen, South Wales
Post by: bethjames on November 21, 2011, 11:56:57 am
Hello  ;D

Originally from Ammanford I moved with my father to just South of Carmarthen near Kidwelly just over 2 years ago from the Midlands in England.
Slowly but surely we reinstated our smallholding with Oxford Sandy and Black pigs instead of Gloucestershire Old Spots as previously. We now have regular litters with one set of youngsters ready to go soon and a boar starting work as a stud - and thoroughly enjoying himself!  :D
We also have a small herd of non-short Dexter cattle with cattle regularly for sale in-calf/with calves at foot. A handful of Black Rock hens that provide us with a steady stream of eggs - and no excuse not to bake!  ::)

I also have 3 dogs of my own - 2 yellow bitch labs and a young springer spaniel dog. I train and compete with these of working gundogs - and should be having a litter from my eldest bitch in the New Year if she behaves  :P She's doing fantastically in the competitive world and recently won a championship through heats in England and Wales. I also run a petsitting company mainly catering for small farms and smallholdings in Carmarthenshire.

Not forgetting my father's old - and now blind - black lab bitch and the 2 farm cats!

Beth  ;D

Hello and welcome from misty Carnoustie

We have a few members that are real dog fanatics - I quite like mine  :) - and a couple that do gundoggy things.

I'll look forward to hearing all about your place and sharing experiences.

Thanks for the welcome  :)

Not a lot happening today, just keeping an eye on the latest litter of piglets and organising the meat for the next couple of fatteners due for slaughter.

Everything's fairly well behaved today  Even the crazy springer pup  :o

She's actually known as the Black Blighter cos she can be a pest (but can't they all?) - really name (Crazy) Daisy.  The lab is my OH's guide dog and called Victor or Vicko the thicko - his brain is in his harness and when that comes off........  ;D

You'll find plenty of info about goats on here.  I've been keeping them for eight years and wouldn't be without now.  Mine are pure Sanaans, a very placid breed.  The youngest is crossed with a Bristish Alpine and a right menace.  His name is Curry as we aren't planning on having him for long - not in his present form anyway.

Haha aren't all dogs tho  :) we all have the days where they drive us crazy but we'd never change them for the world haha.
Do you keep them mainly for meat then or a bit of both? (ie milk and meat) - the goats that is, not the dogs...  ;)

;D Have thought about slaughtering the dogs a few times.  The goats are mainly for milk.  I did tell her she was to have a female kid but did she listen?
