Title: Ear Necrosis
Post by: Blonde on October 10, 2011, 03:35:54 am
Does any body  have any idea why pigs ear  bleed and slowly drop off making them small and small to the point of having no ears at all ???

Is is caused by their environment ???

or is it something to do  with their feed ???

Is it something in the body that changes ??? :farmer:

I believe it's a bacterial infection, some folk reckon it's caused by ear biting (in growers) and others think the ear biting happens because of the leisions on the ears.
I think it's an environmental issue - stocking density and hygiene being the most likely causes.
Sorry, don't know much more than that  :-[

Necrosis is basically the death of living tissue and can be caused by sunburn, frostbite etc.
In pigs stocking densities can cause pigs to fight and bite, the bites get infected, tissue dies and can lead to gangrene. Yuk.
