Post by: Mel on October 06, 2011, 02:24:45 pm
Hello folks!

OK,so I have to fill in a food chain information-pigs production site details. Questions please!

Business owner is me.
Production site-Is this me,or where they were born?
Veterinary Surgeon responsible for site?!!! Never needed to use one?!!!!!!
Production system? Do I fill this in only-how do I know what system the breeder used-call them and ask maybe?

Any advice would be most welcomed!!

All the details are about you and how you have raised them.

Yes, you are the business owner.
Production site is your address or where you keep them.
Vet - is the vet you use, or would use.
Production system is how you have produced them.

Hope this helps.

They normally divide production system into born & raised indoors, Born & raised outdoors, or born indoors & raised outdoors. It's all about how controlled & enclosed is the environment they are kept in.

I have assumed that the 'production system' is only relevant if the pork is to be sold on - to a butcher or supermarket, for instance - and is not really of any relevance if the pig is being slaughtered for your own use. Is that correct?

(I still answered as fully and honestly as I could when I sent mine - "free range daytimes, indoors at night", I wrote!  ::) :D)
