Title: Maiden milker, will she stop?!
Post by: plumseverywhere on October 01, 2011, 10:33:26 am
Savannah has reduced her yield from 8 pints a day to between 3 and 4 and I have reduced her feed in relation to this but still trying to not let her lose weight/condition.  I'm wondering if maidens tend to 'dry up' for winter or if there is some way of giving her a rest? thanks! Lisa

It is more common for them to dry off in the winter yes. I know someone who has a 4 or 5 year old that she never managed to get in kid- she comes into milk every summer for a while and dries up again every winter....

You'll probablly find when the days get even shorter into November/December she should dry up completely.

You can help it along by milking her less frequently.
