One good thing, i don't do many household jobs now as i just don't have the energy and i get to sit on the sofa with my feet up lots lol

Hubby has sorted out the raised beds now (today) just waiting for him to go to the nursery to get some of the free soil (the one in menstrie) so i can sieve and fill the beds up (he dug them over too !!!!)

I have also discovered  i can't at crisps lol

Why no crisps ? Please don't tell me that their not 'allowed' ?
Have to confess that third time round I'm a bit more relaxed about what I can/can't eat (maybe it's cos I've been craving brie, brie and lots more brie !!! although I've only succumed to the temptation once or twice - HONEST!)
Also have to admit to carrying TV's about, changing tyres on the cars and last time round I was wallpapering the kitchen while a week overdue !

One tip Linz,
Everybody and their aunt will give you advice about pregnancy and it only gets worse when the little one arrives - you've got to find & do what's best/right for you and the baby - you're the ones that matter !
ps: Happyhippy .....I thought the BANG was at the beginning ?????? Must be where I have been going wrong all these years .... :o ::) ;D
LOL!  ;D Russ, maybe WHOOSH would've been a better word - the time just dissapears. Not that the bang's not important too  ;)

Post by: Fluffywelshsheep on March 01, 2009, 07:13:34 pm
no crisp are allowed just my stomach doesn't like em, lol
the doctor implied that i could eat all eggs as all of them are lion quality including raw ones !!!! but personally i have only been eatting heavy cooked ones also told me that i couldn't eat sandwitch meats which i had never heared off before but it might be down to the pork scary scotland had.

With the world and its auntie saying what to do, not many people know about bump as i have had problems in the past so keep it quiet until about 2 wks ago when i told annie and sandy (as they want me to help dig stuff for gardening) at the tas meeting.

because of the problems i have been taking it easy with lifting things also easily strain my stomach being extra carefull about things too.

On a wee different note i think i have a problem with my water (house pipes not body works, lol) So am gona have to boil tons of water up and put it in the fridge as all i can drink is water, might even go out and buy some bottled water just in case.

Just let Tam do all the heavy stuff - that's what men are for - isn't it??????  I was going to say that's all men are good for but I wouldn't dare ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Oops, I have said it!  ;)

We had a private water supply 1st time I was pregnant and as there were sheep in the field where the well was we took the precaution of having it tested - think it was SEPA that did it, there were some issues (which they guy said wouldn't have mattered in the past, but with 'current legislation' could cause problems  ???)
We got a UV filter fitted to cold water supply (think it cost around £100) that zapped any nasties - but you'd have to factor cost of bottled + hassle of boiling & storing against it to see what would work best.
I understand about taking it easy - and you should do it, I'm just in the habbit of having to do all these things and can't stop or they'll not get done (while hubby is 'recovering' from his bad back  ::))
Eggs, as long as they're pasturised, are fine cooked or raw - personally I couldn't eat them undercooked while preggers anyway  :P
Sandwich meats is a new one on me though - I'll have to ask the midwife why next time I see her  ???

How do you pasteurise an egg without cooking it? ???

Congratulations  ;D I am not going to give any advice - despite being a midwife as everyone will have an opinion on something. I would like to know about the sandwich meats. All I know is that you should not eat meats that have not been cooked so that includes cured meats and also liver - to that includes pate. Enjoy yourself, I had a September baby. Nice time to have one. Have the summer off and enjoy Christmas! If you want to ask anything that can't wait until you see your midwife you are welcome to PM me.

How do you pasteurise an egg without cooking it? ???
I think it's something to do with them being heat treated (maybe blasted with microwaves or something  ???), but I don't understand how it works either Annie
I'm a bit thick  ;D

and don't handle raw chicken too, methinks  :farmer:
Heck - I'm screwed then ! No more cooking for me ! I always thought it was fine as long as you washed your hands  :o
It'a amazing how the advice has changed through time. When my mum was pregnant with me (32 years ago) women were advised to eat liver, full of iron & good for the blood ! Something that's a total no-no now. How did people manage back in the 'old days' before all this new fangled research & technology ?  ;)

Heck the advice we got from doctors for our first son kept changing the more we had. All the advice we got the first time  was 'wrong' by the time we had the forth! By that stage, however, we knew what worked and what didn't...ya can't beat the 'ol bit of hands on experience!

How exciting!!! an addition to your growing stuff!!! you can now at least relax with your crafting and not feel guilty, a very good excuse to knit as well. I find it strange how now there are sooooooo many not to eat rules for pregnant women, I knew none of these when I was pregnant, the youngest of my three children being 30 this October, none of them had health problems although my eldest daughter has several allergies, also when babies start to eat solids, so many new rules on that too, I am truly amazed and wounder how much evidence medically there is? Crisps are very fatty...I just ate 2 bags and had given them up for months, when I eat them I usually feel very unhealthy so, best to keep off anyway....hope as your bump grows mine diminishes!!!  :-*

Can I frighten you ? Just a wee bit ?  ;D

One thing midwifes will tell you is not to panic - 'you'll know when you do go into labour'............................. I DIDN'T  :o
This resulted in a very hasty delivery in Ellon doctors surgery in Aberdeenshire, on the floor, with NO pain relief !!! But do you know what - it wasn't too bad (obviously it wasn't what I'd planned - just kind of happened!) and it's soon forgotten about, as is any negativeness/aches/pains etc as soon as you've got them in your arms. They could have cut off my leg there and then and I wouldn't have cared - I had my baby !
Second time round (on Xmas day of all days!) I definately knew what was going on - just as well I hear you say ;) My waters broke at 11.30am and Kaitlin was born just a little late for lunch at 1.30pm - quick, fairly easily and in the living room ! (pre-arranged this time after 1st times chaos)

You'll get told lots of horror stories (I think people enjoy terrifying 1st time mum's :-\) As long as you know what's happening to your body at each stage and why I think it makes it easier to deal with - plus it's all over in a relatively short space of time. Do plenty research and you'll feel calmer and more in control and you'll be fine.
After all - if it was that bad, no-one would ever have more than 1 child, and plenty do.
If you've not checked it out yet - this is quite a good site

Like you Linz I thought the same  :o
Even although we'd planned the pregnancy and it was so wanted and looked forward to we both had those 'Oh my god - what are we doing?' moments. I remember being in absolute disbelief when the midwife told me the labour had started and the baby was almost here, I actually said 'No, it can't be, she's not due for a fortnight - I'm not ready !' at which point both her & my mum fell about laughing and I started to panic !  :o  :o  :o
It's a BIG change, and the steepest learning curve I've ever faced (especially with 2nd one) but it's SOOOOOO worth it - relax, you'll be fine.  :-*

It was an amazing day indeed - apparently it was in the papers at the time, but I never managed to get a copy ! lol!
Where they managed to find a vest, baby grow, nappies and blankets from in a doctors sugery at the drop of a hat I'll never know, but I'll certainly never forget it !  ;)

Ginger nuts, eating little and often. I found very little helped but it doesn't last to long. Heart burn will be the next thing. Oh the joys of pregnancy!!  ;D ;D ;D and there's very little you can take for the flu, although must admit i always find honey, lemon and whiskey with hot water (Gran's recipe, god bless her soul) work's well for me when i have the flu, you'll have to leave the whiskey out though! Speak to the midwife if it get to bad you don't want to get low on iron, makes you feel awful! hope your feeling better soon. :D :D :D

i have been doing the ginger nuts, currently ihave been taking apple & blackcurrent in hot water with alittlebit of honey, but that when i can keep it down at the moment still taking my iron tablets so i think am okay on that front.

It just am strugglng with it at the moment, am just a very bad patient and don't like sitting on my @rse for too long.

I've tried through all 3 pregnancy's to find something that works for morning sickness - but never had any joy with a cure ! Maybe it's just me though ?
Last time around I was still being really sick at 7 months and when I asked the midwife her answer was 'it's because the baby is living off of you, essentially a parasite, the baby will be fine - but there's nothing we can give you for it!'  ::)
Sorry I can't be of more help Linz.  :(
I know what you mean about sitting about - I've had sickness & diahorrea and have been out of action for a week, it's soooo frustrating cause I've got tonnes to do, but just can't summon up the strength to get going. Oh well, I'm on the home straight now - only about 6 weeks to go ! I DO like being pregnant, but when it gets to this stage I get impatient, grumpy and sore and just want the baby here (mainly so I can move properly) - bending over's getting to be a right pain in the a*s*, or maybe that's the piles ?  ;)

Can't help with the morning sickness but I made some handcream with bees wax. I'm a beekeeper amongst other things. I had someone ring me up as they'd purchased some and wanted more because it was brilliant on nappy rash.

Before my morning sickness even started with my two I had their dad well trained to bring me a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit.  I refused to get out of bed till I'd had that, and except for the rare occasions when either he or I forgot or I had to get up to the loo during the night it worked a treat.

i'll remeber that davidnChris, lol

Tam is well trained (by his auntie, who bought him up, his mum didn't even drag him up)
I have got him doing the washing and cleaning (he does the cleaning anyway) and occasional when i don't fell up to it make the food,
I would get him to make me a cuppa in themorning but i don't really drink much tea or eat much biscuit at home.At the moment i have to work my wy up to food in the morning

Reminded me of a friend a few years ago, right up until the time of the birth she was fine, ignored all the old wives and their horror stories.  As she got into the labour ward she was heard screaming "I've changed my mind" ....  (true).

lol i was given the option of home birth but opted(this still depends on bump) out of it was it is my 1st. lol
I DEFINATELY didn't plan a home birth 1st time, but given how well things went under the circumstances, but I felt more confident 2nd time round. It was nice to be in my own surroundings and I really enjoyed it. Our local hospital (40 min away, so there's always a chance the baby would be born in the car - I'm QUICK) doesn't have the best reputation and with all the superbugs and blah blah hype, I'm not going near it unless I HAVE to.
But if it was my 1st all over again and I didn't have the knowledge that I do now it'd be hospital every time. The way I see it there's no point taking a risk, because you don't know how you'll cope with everything (they keep all the REALLY strong drugs at the hospital !  ;)) and it's best with a 1st to be in hospital incase there are any complications.
That said...................
If your midwifes are happy, you're happy and baby's happy and doing fine, it doesn't matter where their born  ;D
