Title: Gordon and the Fox
Post by: sabrina on September 27, 2011, 09:32:26 am
Last week while feeding the ponies I noticed a very strong smell of fox near the field gate, having read that a male peeing would put fox off Gordon spent part of Saturday and Sunday evening doing just that around the gate and up the fence a bit. Yesterday no smell of fox but this morning he had been by the field shelter. I can see Gordon is going to have a busy few nights marking as much area as he can  ;D

I thought the smell of our male dogs lifting their leg round the field would put off a fox, but they seem to pee in the same place to cover the dog smell!!  There again, they sit outside the dog pens at night, and when they dogs come into the field for a run, the foxes move off into the hedge - can be three or four all together.  So even the presence of a dog is no deterrent to a wily old fox.

Poor Gordon - he will be kept busy :)

Alpacas work too. Not peeing: they hate foxes and have been known to kick them to death.
Never tried the pee trick, but having the hen run next to the kennels seems to deter foxes!
