John and Linda had to have their lovely, lovely dog, Kimi, put to sleep today.
She wasa bit off colour at the weekend, they took her to the vet yesterday and he found a mass in her abdomen when he Xrayed her. When he operated today, there were other tumours too; he said that, with medication, she'd get another couple of months so John and Linda decided, righly in my opinion, to let her go.
Kimi was the nicest dog. She was a bitsa; Mark, Dan's brother, got her from the pound about 10 years ago, then she went to live with John and Linda, and was best friends with their other dog, Fillan. You could have put her in a pram with a baby, sure in the knowledge that she would never, ever harm it.
The day we moved here, our neighbour's 8 year old son was sitting on the pavement with his arms and legs wrapped round her; she had her head on his shoulder.
Fillan sometimes has fits and becomes disorientated; Kimi would lead him back to the house if he got "lost". He will miss her so much. She was so undemanding but so appreciative of your kindness. Her bed was in front of the cupboard that their food was in - when Linda lifted the bowls, she'd move quietly out of the way. Just no bother at all.
When the vet Xrayed her yesterday, he didn't even have to sedate or anaesthetise her; she just lay calmly on the table. She hadn't had a sick day in the nine years John and Linda have had her. We're all going to miss her so much.
RIP, Kimi dog.

She sounds a treasure. So sad to lose her - but so good that the end was as peaceful and gentle as her life. She will live in your memories a very long time. :bouquet:

It's always very sad to have a pet put to sleep :'(
But it sounds like they all shared some great times and Kimi didn't suffer. A difficult but brave decision that I believe was the correct one.

Here she is, last summer. I know everyone says it but she was the best dog ever. :)

she's beautiful.
so sorry her time has come :(

A brave and in my humble opinion, correct decision.
She sounds like the perfect dog, she sure was a looker :)
There must be something wrong with me 'cause I see people losing their lives through accidents or murder and I hardly turn a hair. Tell me about an animal or specifically a dog going and, well, you know..................... :'(

Thank you for your kind words.
I think the word I would use to describe Kimi is 'serene" - she was always like her photo. She would lie and watch all that was going on then she would get up and wander over, with her whole back end wagging gently. A few cuddles and she'd be back at her post again. Her favourite place was in the back of John and Linda's car, watching the world go by. Poor Fillan looks a bit lost, poor boy.

Kimi was such a sweetheart Rosemary. It is so sad to have to make that decision and leaves such a big gap in your life. Thinking of John and Linda. Still miss my Glenboy so much.
