I have no idea what to do with crab apples and usually leave them for the birds but thought I might try something more creative this year..
All I can think of is crab apple jelly but I don't eat meat so not sure how useful it'll be to me - no idea when to harvest or what to do and I don't even own a muslin bag if that's needed..
Any ideas?

Crab apple jelly is nice on home made crusty bread too - you just add a bit more sugar - q1lb per pint of juice instead of three quarters. Add a few squirts of lemon juice too.

alternatively you can give them to me Ellie to make chilli apple jelly!!!!! :)

I was reading (on another website) and chilli and crab apple jelly - everyone was raving about it - so much so that I'm now eyeing up my neighbours crab apples! Just google I'm sure you'll find it!

Spiced crab apples? Crab apple butter? Crab apple syrup? Crab apple and mint jelly? Verjuice ( which is like a cross between cider and wine)?
if anyone would like any of the recipes let me know :)

Vegetarian uses for crab apples:
- Crab apple jelly and peanut butter sandwiches. :yum:
- Also crab apple jelly and cheese sandwiches. (I think it might be even better with smoked cheese but haven't actually tried this.)
Hereabouts crab apples all go into the pig! :pig: :yum:
