When we first moved here 16 years ago we saw dragon flies and didn't think anything much of it. But there have been none at all since that first year, until yesterday when one was flying around in my veggie patch. I'm well chuffed at that
We used to stop a lot at Cottonhopeburnfoot on the A68 where there were always dozens of dragonflies hunting - I could watch them for hours - amazing creatures.

How lovely FW.
We had a pond dug this summer and within minutes there seemed to be all sorts of things darting about. I have seen a coupe of big dragnflies. I hope they stick around. They are so lovely.

We've not had so many this year they are usually sunning themselves on the gravel paths and fly up when we drive in to see the sheep.
I absolutely love em but funny i can't stand Daddy-Long-Legs they give me the creeps, get everywhere then fall to pieces when you try to catch them ( hubby's job) get all shivery just thinking about them. urgh :P

I was lucky enough one year to come across a dragonfly just emerging, wings still not quite dry. My friend put it on her hand so I could take a pic or two:

Thank you all for the dragon fly stories and pics. I haven't seen my one again - maybe I will have to wait another 16 years :'(
