Title: My New-refurbed Turkey house!
Post by: Mel on September 06, 2011, 08:46:40 pm
Ok,so I am completely mad,but I like all my little ones to have real creature comforts! We picked up this shed off the freecycle,it had no roof or windows,£24.00 for the osb,£15.00 for the felt,£20.00 guttering,£20.00 for the water butt,Windows were what we took out of our house last year! £10.00 for the flower baskets, paint from the freecycle, pics of turkeys are free by me ;D that is not much for a nice homely turkey home!

I just have the floor to do-laminate or lino for easy cleaning. :D

but where are the curtains.  Most impressive - how many turkeys are you intending to have - you might need an extension lol

:D Thanks so much for your replies! We made it between the two of us, though to my specs :)My Mum suggested curtains lol,so may be added to finishing touches! Most people have said it is too good for Turkeys but it is not like they shall be here forever and we can use it when empty for other uses.

I was at Melton Mowbray around 4 weeks ago, there were a lot of older turkeys there, the sellers left them without water so I took it upon myself to top all their drinkers up,you know,it may sound potty, but they got up as were incredibly thirsty,it was a very hot day and they came up to me and it was if they were thanking me.it is then that I could see the beauty in them and I felt really sad for them,I know it sounds soft, but I really do care about all living things and despise the fact that so many sellers are in the business,Just for the money and have no real thought for their stock.

That is why I thought, when we get our house for Turkeys,I would make it extra special for them so whilst with us,they have lived their lives to the fullest :)

Well done leghorn, fab housing, and v kind of you to think of the water for the turkeys. I'm pleased to read there are some kind thoughtful folk left in this world.

What a fabulous home.  We've just put a shed up for our turkeys and I was going to get a little sign for the outside and I thought that that would be nice.  But this is another level!!  I love it. :)  We've just moved our 13 week old turkeys to the shed but so far they haven't spotted the perch we installed for them.  I think maybe they are protesting that there are no pictures in there.  :D
