Title: Potatoes eaten by worms or other pests

we had a lot of potatoes destroyed by worms, slugs or some pest. They were almost hollowed inside. Can someone explain why this happens and how to prevent it?

Mostly it's slugs which do that but occasionally mice. Because the slugs are deep underground they don't succumb to slug pellets, night searches, frogs and toads etc.  It's best to lift and store the potatoes a bit earlier, especially in a wet season.  If it's mice only one or two tubers will be affected, so if it's lots it will be slugs.  I think some varieties of potato are less prone to slug damage than others. :spud: :spud: :spud:
