Shame they are not cheaper, as I am after 2 :pig: :pig: or 3 :pig: :pig: :pig: weaners to bring on for meat ready for Christmas.

Nice and local for me, so if you got any weaners for fattening rather than breeding then let me know.  ;D

Not wanting to start an arguement here  ;) But that's a fair price for quality stock from a reputable breeder.
If you were to get 'cheap' pigs, as has been discussed at length here in the past, it can take much longer for them to fatten, they may not have been wormed and any visit from the vet will soon do away with what you perceive as a saving on the purchase price. When you think that you're probably going to spend £200 ish getting them from field to fork £20 at the start is nothing  :-\
If buyers won't pay a fair price for pigs, it won't be long before breeders stop breeding and where will all our rare breeds be then ?
Sorry, rant over  ::)

Freethyme,

they are good strong weaners and should finish in time for christmas,why dont you give me a call.

HappyHippy

Your words are very well chosen and very true, I dont think people realise the cost implications involved even for a small herd breeder/keeper like me thank you.

Shame they are not cheaper indeed :o :o. Why not pop down to your local rspca and see if they've got any that need rehoming.

Hi - do some people really expect them to be almost given away.  The price of feed nowadays doesn't allow for weaners to be less than £40-50 at 6 weeks of age,  in MO.  Here in France you pay between 60 and 75euros for piglets from known progeny and between 40-60euros for bog standard crosses.  Cost of ground wheat (ble) is between 11-12euros for a 25k bag.  Certainly not cheap feeding pigs even with the fallen fruit we have around but they are characters and well worth keeping not just only for the meet.  We keep Berkshires and GOS by the way.  Trying to find a stud boar from the Patrick line but think we will have to send off to deer park for some straws.
