Title: olive tree
Post by: northfifeduckling on August 20, 2011, 10:06:24 pm
OH has gifted me a small olive tree - does anyone know if I have to move it indoors over the winter? Just been stung by frost last year , lost all my avocados and lemon trees by leaving them in the (unheated) greenhouse.... :&> the figs have been fine, though, strangely :&>

I had one planted outside in a sheltered spot and it survived about 10 or 12 years, but last winter finished it off.   :'(

Maybe move it somewhere at least moderately frost free for the winter.

they cant cope with our very severe winters so i'd move it inside rather than risk losing it

Mine wasn't doing well inside - I kept forgetting to water it and to be honest it could do with a bigger pot, but when my pal visited me in May she stuck it outside in the rain and it has grown such a lot of new leaves.  I'll take it in when it starts getting cold though.
