Post by: crosser on August 14, 2011, 03:01:01 pm
i cant pull her neck so was wondering if i put her in a big box and used car exhaust fumes to put her to sleep...  is it a good idea or not? used this method on a chick with broken hip and she went very quick...

Pulling the neck is quicker for the bird, if you are going to eat the bird then I would suggest not to gas it as the meat will be tainted and not taste very nice at all and could possibly make you poorly, or you can use a broom place the broom on the floor put the birds head and neck under the handle put your foot on the handle and pull the chicken upwards by the feet.

Pulling the neck is harder on you but much kinder to the bird. Suffocating her like that will make her suffer before she dies.

Hold her firmly against you, get a good grip of her head, between the head and beginnng of her neck, between your first and second fingers, look the other way and pull hard and twist. Do it firmly - it's much kinder. Or use the broom handle method described below.

I know it's horrid - we should never like killing other creatures, but it's up to us to get over our squeamishness so that our animals don't suffer more than they need to.

surely it goes with the territory, culling is part of chicken husbandry.
