I would like to get a couple of lambs for orchard to rear for meat this year. I would love to make contact with a smallholder that can help with advice and possible contacts to obtain said lambs. is there anyone near me who could help please?

Hi Claire,
Welcome to TAS.
I'm not local I'm afraid - but didn't want to read & run !
First off, make sure you've got a holding number for your land BEFORE bringing anything into your orchard, most people won't even entertain you if you've not got one.
As for getting your lambs, a local farmers auction in your area is possibly worth a try - I remember lambs being sold for ridiculously low prices a few years ago at our local mart - but not having any experience with sheep I'm maybe not the best person to ask !
Pigs, however are a different matter ;D If your orchard's well established (over 10 years since planted) pigs would be a great addition and maybe worth considering - plus all that pork goes lovely with apple sauce !
Good luck,
Karen :pig:

Hi, Claire
I'm sure soemone here will be able to help. Maybe avoid markets until you are more experienced. Try your local smallholders association if there is one, if you want baby lambs to bottle feed and rear.
