Title: Ok so we have lice on the pigs, cod liver oil, sulpher or can I use Noromectin?
Post by: Mel on August 10, 2011, 06:33:05 pm
Hi all.

I have just given my pigs their evening meal and as I was washing everything down-with my hose pipe,I washed the pigs down too as have been thick in the wallow all week.I have just noticed some white egg looking things behind their ears on the neck.I cannot keep hold of any pig long enough to try and identify them, they are not moving, just look like eggs,a few on one, lots on two others, and nothing on the other three-yet!

I would prefer to catch it in before they hatch, but does anyone have any ideas what they are,I am going back down now to see if in the remote possibility of getting a close up picture.Be back shortly!

Lice. You need to treat them with a pour-on, or an injectable such as ivomectin. You also need to clean out their ark and burn the bedding or compost it away from mammals, and use something to decontaminate the arks (we sprayed with jeyes fluid the only time we've had this problem).

Would it be ok to use Noromectin Pour-on? My neighbouring farm has cattle and sheep and uses this.

Probably, but check with your vet.

Quickest and most effective solution - Dectomax or Ivomectin, injected. Good luck.
