Title: Mange?!
Post by: plumseverywhere on August 07, 2011, 04:29:22 pm
Snowball, my little black siameseX girl has developed a patch near her mouth and onto her cheek bone (about an inch by half an inch size) where fur has fallen out, there is dry white skin flakes and it looks like mange  :o
The cats were 'frontlined' only about a month ago which I thought would treat mange but wondered if anyone has any ideas as to what this could be? she's not scratching, doesn't seem bothered but it looks horrible  :-\
vet tomorrow probably to make sure its nothing more sinister..

Might be ringworm - in which case don't touch it or you'll get it too.  Very contagious but very treatable

I always use advocat on my cats and dogs as it covers much more than just flea's, covers mange, and worms too x

Whilst Advocate does treat mange, roundworms, ear mites etc it has no effect on tapeworms which are the most common worms in adult cats especially if they are hunters. If Snowball's skin problem is ringworm (a fungal infection not a worm and more common than mange in cats) it will have no effect on it and will remain contagious to humans as well as other animals. Might be quicker and cheaper in the long run to take Snowball to the vets.

Not that it made me smile to see that Snowball maybe has mange, but it made me smile to see that Snowball might need some Advocat - when I were 'a lass' we used to make a drink called a Snowball out of Advocat, brandy and lemonade - oh, and a cocktail cherry on a stick.  Honestly, Babycham was so last week.  (Actually I mostly drank pints of real ale, but just sometimes a Snowball really hit the spot.)

I hope you find the right treatment for Snowball, plums.
