I still am! Also about 3000 eggs ago, or maybe a touch more ............... - 12 years, 7 hens, 1 egg a day each for three quarters of the year = ???? Oh my head hurts, can't work it out but a blooming lot of eggs, and each one a miracle!
-
That's 22,995 eggs Annie :o. (Guess who's having a boring day at work! ;D)
Congratulations Ellied! And you're right to be ridiculously pleased. What are you going to do with it?
-
So exciting, an omlett? fried egg? or are you going to put it in a celebration cake?

Well done Scarlett!

No egg today sadly :( so it may be a rather small omelette ::) tho I still have some of yours from my last visit so we won't starve ;)
-
Don't give up hope, there will be more ;D ;D you will enjoy every single one of them - and so will your neighbours and friends very soon ;D ;D :&>

I just couldn't possibly have accepted the offer of the omelette when Ellie's girls had only produced 2 eggs, so we had a delicious almost totally home grown salad instead (with the cheese being hidden from my view, thanks, Ellie x) They are all lovely chooks, didn't come to see me as they were hot and stayed under the tree.
But I had a lovely time out in the fields with the ponies nudging me and eating my sleeve and hair. I am so envious of folk owning ponies/horses. The only regret in my life is not having got one when I had the opportunity. Whoever buys these gals and guys will be sooo lucky. ;D

I'd have done it long ago if I'd had the land. (we had cattle and sheep in Aberdeenshire years ago, before there was so much paperwork ::)) You haven't been round here but it is close to a public path, next to the village, and just not suitable for anything other than dooks n chooks, and a bunch of noisy brats whenever anyone tries to get close whether human or animal. ::)
-
Well today another landmark - 2 eggs ;D ;D Tho I have to say one is as wee as a banty egg and I'm guessing it's the Black Rock on the basis of shades of red and pink comb comparisons ;) so I hope she's going to improve on her performance and not be a shame to her breeding ;) but I'm delighted anyway 8)
Actually I wonder if I had a wee egg from her a couple days ago and not from Scarlett as it was laid in the main coop between the roosts :o and Scarlett has always favoured one nest box.. Either way that's now 9 eggs in 8 days and 2 laying out of 4 girls, so I'd best plan some baking soon or speak to my neighbours to see if they want half a dozen before they move out :o
-
told you there'd be more ;D
if the first egg is tiny usually means that she is only just starting to lay. Scarlett may have been in lay and only stopped until she settled in. Mind you, one of ours has just gone back to laying smaller eggs, no idea why. The ducks do that at the end of the season, maybe she's going into moult soon. ;D :&>
