Title: IR X KC
Post by: Dizzycow on July 29, 2011, 08:36:04 am
Hi,
My female IR has stopped laying after having a sore leg and being in solitary. I'm thinking about hatching some of my KC eggs - they're with a male IR. Does anyone have any knowledge about what a cross is like? If I hatch lots would people buy them or are pure breeds more desirable? I'm assuming that because IRs were used to create KCs it would be a good match, I'm not sure what they'll look like, though!
Thanks, Vikki

I've a few dozen IR x KC, a few look like one or the other parent (body-wise), the majority intermediate of the two.

They make really good layers, though i don't think there is enough meat to eat on them should you be that way incline

I couldn't eat them. I'm a rubbish smallholder. I can't eat any of our beasts. Sniff. Ah well! I think I'll give it a go, just had someone ask me for more ducklings.
Thanks!

I used to think my Duck had stopped laying until I discovered her nest of eggs, Ducks are soooooo good at hiding eggs and I usualy find them covered over, once finding 40+. Glad you IR is better now!!!!! I should maybe consider some more ducks but not noisy ones as they certainly woke my husband....he could be seen at 5.30 in a pink dressing gown and big crocs, going up the garden with feed just to shut them up!!!!! ;)
