Title: Rooting hormone
Post by: suziequeue on July 22, 2011, 10:33:58 am
Can anyone enlighten me?

I need to get hold of hardwood rooting hormone and softwood rooting hormone for my practical horticulture assignment.

All the rooting homrines that I can find don't specify hardwood or softwood.

Are there dfifferent kinds for different woods?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware, (I've got my national certificate in Horticulture) there is not a specific rooting hormone for different types of cuttings (and to be honest they work just as well without!) but as its for an assignment, probably best to use it!

I tried to google this yesterday for you and came up with the same answer.  One hormone rooting powder for all and you get as good ressults without.  But didn't want to say in case it was just one opinion.

Thanks - it's reassuring to know that I'm not missing something obvious!!

The assignment is abut comparing curttings using different methods - so one lot with hardwood rooting hormone, another lot with softwood rooting hormong and another lot with nothing.....

I'll enquire with the tutors.

Thanks
