Title: Hello from south yorkshire
Post by: tomandbarbara on February 12, 2009, 01:28:57 pm
Just taken delivery of a pair of saddleback weaners last sunday.

Although they appear happy they don't seem too interested in coming out of their ark.

I was wondering if this is normall and hoping that they will come out when they are hungry?

I would have attached a photo of the little ones, but I am not sure how to.

well i don't think i would want to come out of my hut if it's cold outside :)

It take a while for any animals to get used to the surrounding, give it times.

Photos are easy - open reply message, click on additional options, then browse, look for your photo (I copy mine onto my desktop first if I'm uploading a photo so they're easy to find - and resize it so it isn't too big).  Then click post

Hi,
I'm also In south Yorkshire, with three old spot x berkshire porkers. They do not like the cold either and stay cuddled up in the ark untill I scratch them. It should thaw out more this weekend, so encourage them with apples etc to explore their patch. Once they get used to you feeding them and giving them a good scratch they become very freindly and should be great fun. How old are they?

They are 8 weeks old.

I have tried to reach in the ark and touch them but they just give me a loud deep grunt, so I have not tried to disturb them again.

They don't appear to like fruit or veg  at the moment. But I presume they will get used to them soon enough.

I must admit it's all a little daunting at first.

Rest assured, they won't starve themselves to death!

Pigs are great fun once they get used to you.  In no time they'll be rolling over when you scratch their bellies!
We found that when we bought weaners they took a while to get used to us.  Now we breed our own so they are used to us from day one.

Good luck
