Title: duck eggs - North Fife
Post by: northfifeduckling on February 09, 2009, 11:17:17 am
We have a regular supply of duck eggs @ £ 1.50 a box. We are near Newburgh in NE Fife.
The eggs are fertile and can be incubated. What comes out is a bit of a lottery, as we have different breeds.

Hello there Kerstin
This was actually your post that google found for me. Clever google.

We like the idea of a lottery hatching.
What kind of ducks do you have and do they interbreed?
We had Alyeburys and Muscoveys at the smallhold where I grew up, they never interbred.

We live down beside the Eden river with an old mill lade at the back of us..
There are always wild mallards, moor hens etc milling about. Its perfect for ducks..

In your post you said you had fertile eggs available, I'm aware the post was a while ago but is this still the case?

wow, that post  is years old but I can meet you both some time soonish and bring a lottery box  ;D .I' m quite curious about your location, sounds lovely! I now ask for £ 1.60 , hope that is ok  ;D . Do you have an incubator? We had to reduce to one drake as 2 gave the girls too much trouble-so yes, they breed! More or less successfully, as they are not the best mums if left to their own devices...
He is a Call/KCampbell cross and for girls we have an IR and a few IR/KCampbell crosses and KCampbells. One of the boys we found a new home for went lo live with Muscovies and they bred like hell! It works up to the second generation, I think - provided they care to mate with each other...
I'll let you know when I'm back in town, are you around daytime or is after work better?

Hello again.
Yes i figured ( eventually ) the post may have been dated.
Sorry but we won't need your eggs after all.
We have decided to go for Indian runners, mainly because after much research we have fallen in love with the breed. Also a bit worried about call duck in the mix as we have heard they can be noisy.

SO......after much deliberation, we have ordered Indian Runner eggs.

You are most welcome to pop in for a cuppa, we are in and around the house day and night as we both work at home ( I am completing a 10 year conversion/reconstruction of our home ).

You have my email and mobile number for directions

Yes we have an incubator, candler and accurate thermometer.

We have an unused greenhouse that is too shaded from a tree for brooding.

As yet we have not constructed a duck hut/run etc yet... lets see if our eggs hatch ok.

Anyway must fly
