Title: Grumpy Gander!
Post by: monkeysox on June 26, 2011, 12:44:21 pm
We have recently been offered a grumpy gander as guard goose for our house and land - coming from a dairy and equine back ground I havent really got any idea what he will need. We are going to get him some lady friends and have a suitable house for them all but can anyone offer any advice as to what else geese like/need?

I fed mine layers pellets and they really lived off the land, they love grass. Obviously need fresh water available 24/7. They did enjoy left over veg and bread they just love. Enjoy your new additions.

In the summer we dont feed ours and they seem to do fine on the nice short grass in their paddock. In the winter they get a bit of whole wheat each, each day, maybe a fist ful each.

They are very low maintenance!

Ours eat mixed grain and they like weetabix as do our ducks, but mostly grass.  Our gander doesn't go for me or my OH but makes a beeline for the kids, even though they have always stayed away from them and haven't bothered them - I've told them to put the grain in their feeder and maybe that will help.
