Coming to the end of the PSB season but it's still producing some nice sproutings despite some others turning to flowering.. I thought it'd be long gone by now and the ground back in use with June salad seeding and other things to overwinter, but it's the most reliable crop I've had and I hate to dig it up when still producing!
A couple of questions occur - anyone else's experience/plans for what to put after late ending PSB
- and are the leaves of PSB also edible as salad leaves if small and/or cooking when I do give up and take htem out? Anything folk do with them instead/as well? I had given a few of the plants to the ponies a month back to clear space for salad planting, but I'm now wondering if I might as well leave them in as it's late to put in new seeds for most things I don't already have.. ???
Sorry, confused Saturday morning, need a cuppa..;)

TeeHee :D :D
I definitely prefer the broccoli.
ellied - one thing to bear in mind if you leave your old brassicas in the bed late is that they may well carry over pests for the next lot of brassicas. Having said that I have left my old plants in, or some of them, because they are flowering so beautifully for the bees :bee: :bee: :bee: I don't still have any spears on them though - lucky you :brocolli: I am growing summer PSB which isn't quite ready yet, plus some for next winter if it's not all turned to mush by neverending frosts. I love PSB :yum:
Dan, there was me just thinking 'isn't it great how on here everyone knows what PSB is so you don't have to write it out'........ ::)

Oops sorry to have caused confusion, the band never really crossed my mind as an alternative interpretation :o
I've had a bumper lot of the vegetable this spring, it's really kept me going cos everything else is so late or damaged or non-existent ::) I rotate beds so next year's PSB (veg :D ) is already planted in another bed with this year's brassica planting.. the old brassica bed is now onions and salad things, but I had to plant up some tubs with salad leaves and spinach cos the PSB (veg ::) ) hadn't done yet, not that I'm complaining ;D
Next year, if I'm still here, the PSB-salad bed will be roots or beans/peas, not sure yet.

I suppose it's mainly the flying pests which get around the best laid rotation plans - cabbage root fly (which seem worse than usual here this year - they even appeared in my pots of young brassicas inside the polytunnel up on a table grr!) and those mealy aphid things which hide in the crinkles of brassica leaves and deep inside sprouts.

Lol, just a bit slow on the uptake. I wracked my brain to think what it was, and my excuse is we're not growing it this year. ;)

Yes, we are, darling ;D

you can eat all of the plant, peel the stems.
maybe follow with an early pea planted late, whole plant edible as well, so if the pods arent great you still get a feed.
the roots will replace some nitogen to the bed too after.
