We live beside Barry Buddon Army Training Centre. Today, Dan and I were coming back with the dogs; the level crossing gates were down so we waited. On the other side of the crossing was a coach bound for the camp. As we watched, a woman got off the bus with a carrier bag, walked away, then came back without the bag. We walked over the foot bridge and as we approached the bus, which was full of kids, we could see that a bag of vomit had been placed against the fence.
I approached the bus and asked the driver if that was a bag of vomit that was lying on the ground. The woman appeared, wearing some sort of Army cadet T shirt, and said "It was leaking. It will all leak out." I was livid. I walked back to the house, got a bin bag and walked back to pick up the bag with the intention of giving it back to he "not leaking" but the bus had gone. I binned the bag
I have tried to call the camp but have had no answer. I will be trying again. If the gatehouse had been manned, I would have presented the bag to the guard.
Dan thinks I should let it go and they won't give a stuff anyway. Am I becoming a "Daily Mail" reader?

We had a naughty Mc Meal and were both cross that a couple in thier 40's just opened thier door and threw out the litter, IF I were not English, I would have gone up to the car and hand it them back but dare I? and the bin was on the other side of thier car, then a car full of young people parked the other side and when they finnished, one lad went to the bin with all the rubbis!!!!!!!!!

I think your right rosemary, just think if everyone left bags of vomit because they leaked the countryside would have more rubbish than it does already,

I would do the same. People are so thoughtless.
We seem to accumulate the rubbish from the McDonald's in the local village at the end of our driveway. Have enough to do with out litter picking for them!!

Write to the Commanding Officer of the camp - he will follow it up.
Or phone and ask to speak to the Duty Officer.
They will take a complaint by The Public seriously.

I agree, it's appalling and horrible. On the other hand, what could / should they do with a bag of vomit? A leaky bag of vomit on a bus doesn't sound like a good option! Although if you're very close to the camp they could come back for it....?
Nothing worse than this kind of cxxp happening on your own doorstep. Lots of fly tippers round us, makes my blood boil.

I was listening to Dawn French and she said she walks down a lane and puts her dog Pooh bag down until she comes back and some one reported her leaving it but she said, she did not want to carry it all the way and would have picked it up on her return, now I have done that too on walks, not very often though ::)!!!!
I do not agree with the bag of sick at all BUT, I can just imagine, a bus full of young cadets heaving at the sick rolling down the bus, so she may well have been going to pick it back up (doubt it) it is a bio hazard, especially to those who are on military training and thought processes........

I did do that occasionally on walks until a dairy farmer explained to me that cattle are very likely to pick it up and eat it, and it can cause real problems. She would have preferred everyone to just let the dogs poo in the countryside, and leave it - nature's way. (Of course all the dogs better be properly wormed if the poo is just left.)

Rosemary - you are best off writing a letter to the Camp Commander. If you explain in detail the time and place of the incident they should be able to match it up with exercise activity on that day.
At this moment in time I cannot find his/her name but there will be a small permanent staff there to ensure that the place is ticking over.
I would suggest that you strike whilst the iron is hot though as there are many units transiting in and out of the place.
No point ranting at the guardroom. They're just the flunkeys. Very helpful and useful but not really in a position to action any concerns.
The fact that the area is a SSSI is important to the MoD and to hear about their own personnel littering the area will not be taken lightly. I agree with Fleecewife that complaints by the public are taken very seriously.

That's what Dan says - she did look awful embarassed at the time.
I know it's a rotten thing to happen on a bus but if you're going to be travelling with 40 or 50 hyper kids, don't you think "Hm, maybe one or two will be sick, I'd better be prepared for that"?

::) I went as a parent/helper on a Junior School trip and the first thing the teacher did while we all sat on the bus, was to hand out large empty marge tubs to be sick in :o I did not have to use mine but I hung onto it for dear life!!

Firstly I agree with you that it was the wrong thing to do.
However...... There are more worthwhile crusades to take up swords over, rather that what is an isolated incident and will probably never happen again.
The people who train and get involved with cadets often give a lot of their own time to the job and in a lot of cases it gives the kids themselves an interest and keeps them off the streets - so im my view, for what it is worth, let it pass.

It was a one off, probably a lot more vomit would be involved if it was left on the bus. Let it go.

Do you think you're the next Mary Whitehouse - don't worry so am I. Maybe it's my age or having a couple of pre-teenagers in the house but what's wrong with everyone, no one has any manners any more and everyone is out for themselves. It probably was a one off incident and you probably should leave it but personally I would have emptied the bag somewhere it wouldn't be trodden on and then binned the plastic bag later. People don't take responsibility for their litter (just go to the Highland Show for a day and see) even when there are bins a few paces away. Why is society just SO DISAPPOINTING ON SUCH A REGULAR BASIS! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:

One-off or not, volunteer or not, it's not on.
Write to the base commander, as someone else suggested, and write to the local paper as well. Include a photo.
If they get away with it once they're more likely to do it again.
If they get pulled-up over it maybe they'll be more prepared next time.

Great Idea Ambriel ... If the letter is worded well maybe they could end up in a military court or even better a firing squad, that would stop them doing such a terrible thing again !
After all, we are all whiter than white and have never broken a rule, broken a law or dropped a bit of litter, thats why we can all Judge so easily and freely......... :bunny:

Yeah, it was stupid but not life threatening (unless of course the body fluids contain some nasty germ).
I'm happy that I at least challenged her. I gave a woman dog walker a poop bag a couple of weeks ago when I saw her dog drop one and she walked away. I wouldn't have done it 10 years ago - so maybe geting older has its benefits. And just to show I'm not a total witch, when I saw a wee boy going into Tesco with his Mum last week and he dropped a piece of litter, went back, picked it up and put it in the bin, I did thank him. So the youth of today isn't a total wash-out ;D
