Title: Plymouth Egg Size?
Post by: jippers87 on June 23, 2011, 11:57:17 am
Hi all!

What size egg should I expect from an adult Plymouth Rock? Anything on the internet says large but my girl is laying tiny eggs, smaller than those from my standard brown hens! (Although their eggs do seem on the large side and always have been!)

I haven't had her long and maybe it's to do with new surroundings and settling in in a new area? I bought her with 'her' Rooster.

Any advice much appreciated!

My girl lays eggs which are about the same size as my Rhodies. I would say they were equivelent to a large supermarket egg. How old is she and has she only just come into lay?

She is two and has been laying and hatching successfully. Perhaps it's the new environment?

we have two barred Plymouth rocks (never sure which order those three words should be in!) and one lays big eggs.... the other lays HUGE eggs!!
not every day by any means, and they only started this Spring (hatched late summer last year)

they tend not to use the nest box either, like to hide them round the shed  :D
