Title: Butchering Pigs
Post by: Novice on June 15, 2011, 07:50:13 pm
Hello all,
I have a couple of pigs to send to the butchers, but I don't have any experience with that. Does anyone knows a good butcher/slaughterhouse/abattoir near Windsor?
My pigs enjoy a really good life and I don't want them to endure any bad treatment during their last moments.
Also, any idea of the costs? and if they collect?
Many thanks
Sam

Have a look at the Good Abattoir Guide, compiled by Robin from Oaklands Pigs.
http://www.oaklandspigs.co.uk/links/abattoirs/ (http://www.oaklandspigs.co.uk/links/abattoirs/)

If you do find somewhere that's not included in the guide, do let Robin know, as the guide is very much a "work in progress" and depends on people submitting their views - good and bad.

All the best
Liz

The nearest abattoir to Windsor would be Mutchmeats at Witney or Newmans of Farnborough. Charges for pork sized pigs will be around £20-25 for slaughter. Best to get the carcases delivered to a butcher you know and trust to do the cutting, packing, sausage making etc for you. Butchery charges subject to your specification. The butcher will tell you which abattoir to use that will deliver to him. Abattoirs do not collect, you will have to deliver live pigs to them at a time and date specified.
