Title: Hi from Buckinghamshire
Post by: Helen on February 05, 2009, 07:05:46 pm
I'm new to forum use but have been visiting as a guest for a while now.  A few years ago my partner and I were lucky enough to be able to purchase a 1.5 acre paddock and a tiny derelict ex-orchard behind our cottage (near Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire) and I have become addicted to growing veg.  So far we have kept a large area of the paddock as a meadow, cut for hay by a neighbour.  In the last year we put in a small greenhouse, 4 chickens (which are great fun), a newly planted orchard and mini-wood area (only about 35 trees so far), and polytunnel which is built but not yet in use.  Can't wait to get the raised beds set up.

We would love to have more animals but both have full time jobs so this remains a dream for now.  Colin is thinking about taking up beekeeping though.

I am very interested in organic growing and have recently discovered permaculture.  I am currently experimenting with super-mulches as a way of creating new veggie beds without digging!  Colin is interested in green technologies and I have just planted some willows for coppicing for firewood in the future and plan to put in some ash if the ground ever dries out, we are on clay and very waterlogged at present.

Looking forward to corresponding with you all.  Helen.

Welcome! All sounds very interesting ...I went on a bee keeping course last spring and loved it. We didn't actually venture into getting bees at the time, but will in the near future. I'll look forward to hearing more about your progress,
Carole

Hi Helen and welcome.

I fancy bee keeping too but just haven't got round to it. I think it's very interesting.

Look forward to hearing more from you.
