Title: Father's Day Whisky
Post by: Dizzycow on May 30, 2011, 06:20:00 pm
Hellooooo.

Please bear with me - I'm not selling Oakley sunglasses!

Father's Day is 20 days from now - I have a solution if anyone is struggling for a pressie!

I am fundraising for a charity called the Genesis Research Trust which funds research into all aspects of infertility, pregnancy, miscarriage, genetic defects and gynaecological cancers. The trust, for an example, developed the ultrasound which is used for many other applications than pregnancy. The founding chairman is Professor Winston with the large moustache. For more info about the charity see their website  www.women-for-women.org (http://www.women-for-women.org)

I am cycling through Vietnam & Cambodia in December to raise money for the charity, having already cycled through Rajasthan and Jordan in the last six years, leaving my poor husband and children to fend for themselves. I'm not young or fit, so it has been a huge challenge each time, and although an amazing experience each time it is definitely not a holiday!

My husband works for an independent whisky bottling company called Adelphi, and has kindly agreed to sell me lots of whisky at cost price, which I have made a special label for and am selling to raise money. I am selling the Adelphi Private Stock for £25 a bottle which includes UK delivery. All of the profits, £8 per bottle, will go to the charity.

I'm going to try to post an image of the label, although I suspect that the file will be too large. It's a really great label, even though I do say so myself! If I can't attach it to this post then I can email it if anyone would like to see it. I found this quote, which is on the bottle;

"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years." - Mark Twain

If you would like to buy a bottle please pay £25 per bottle by paypal or for a bank transfer email me on [email protected] and I will send bank details.

I realise that this has nothing whatsoever to do with smallholding, please forgive me!

If you want to contact me my email address is [email protected]

Many thanks!   Vikki

I think it has everything to do with smallholding - without fertility where would we all be?

Good luck, I think you are a Star!  I don't have my Dad any more and I don't drink whisky but I hope lots of folk on here do.

Oh Vikki, what a wonderful cause - well done you!!  I was a gynae sister in London and have worked alongside the Prof !
Having seen the devastation that gynaecological cancers and infertility bring about I wholeheartedly applaud you and your husband for what you are doing  :) I'm going to buy a bottle of this for my dad I think!
