Title: measured at 6 months
Post by: white-blazes on May 26, 2011, 09:41:52 pm
Well my boys will soon be going.  Their brothers and sister owned by somebody else went yesterday.

Measured them tonight, they are both 36" girth, and 41" length.

What sort of weight would that be?  The other 3 siblings were not as big as mine, they were 'stabled' at night, whereas mine are free to come and go from their shed.

(36*36*41)/400 = 132.84 lbs or 60 (ish) Kgs

What sort of cuts are you after?

Thanks I thought it was about 60kg.  Not sure about cuts, we went to the abatoir to book them in today, they go 8th June.  They can cut but not de-bone or do sausages, so hubby is going to call and see a butchers tomorrow and discuss with them.

I would say that they will be about 60kg live weight but may drop to around 50s dead weight.

From past experience always get them processed by a butcher mainly because they do a neated and tidider job, although the abatoir will chop them up and debone it will be very rough.

This has been the same for both our local abatoirs not sure what yours are like if not better :)

The abatoir is also a butchers, but they are just so very busy as they supply local restaurants too.  Hubby went to see the other butcher, he is happy to collect them and cut them for us, and do sausages too 8)
