Title: amazing hatch
Post by: meebh on May 25, 2011, 09:05:12 pm
Well despite the power cut we had on Monday we have had a phenomenal hatch.

Last time round we only had 5 hatch and some very weak chicks pipped then dying in shell.

This time we have 14 hatched and only 3 eggs not pipped so far.  Don't know if anyone has any ideas as to why we have had such different results.  We are thinking humidity as the incubator ran out of water for a few days so this time round we were much more vigilant at topping up the water.

Maybe we will never know but very pleased all the same

There is a big discussion about hatches being better if humidity is lower than the general recommended levels on another forum.
Someone put sensors under a broody hen and she maintained a temp of 38C and humidity of 32%.
Since I have lowered my humidity to 35 - 40% I've had much better hatches ;D

Remember to post pics! :D

Hey I love to see pictures too!
So... Click the option below entitled 'Additional Options'.  Further options will appear.
Press the 'Browse' button along from 'Attach' then find where you've saved your pics on your PC.  Windows has a folder entitled 'Pictures' - try there if you're not sure.  Once you've clicked on the picture you want the file pathway will appear in the 'Attach' box.  Be careful of file size.  Most pictures straight from your digital camera will be much bigger than the 512 KB allowed.  (Making pics smaller is a whole other set of instructions!)
When you hit 'Post' you're picture will appear for all to see.  Here's me looking a bit windswept with my very old third hand black orpinton lady before her beak trim.  Sorry it's nothing to do with hatching!

If you open your pics in whatever photo software came with your camera there might be an option to 'batch resize' (I use fuji finepix) or similar.
If you use that you should be able to resize all the photos in an album in one go. ;)
