Title: Cadbury's
Post by: Cinderhills on May 11, 2011, 05:47:17 pm
I know this is a bit random but I am annoyed about it.  Has anyone else noticed how crap Cadbury's chocolate now tastes?  Since they have been taken over the chocolate tastes awful and cheap.  I used to adore it and now it stinks.  >:(

Sorry, I know there are better things to complain about.

I must admit I hadn't noticed, but then I'm not having chocolate just now (trying to lose weight and if I start I won't stop.)

Yes - definitely - it's much crappier now than it was.

And the flakes aren't so crumbly  :-\

You don't know what crap is until you taste the American chocolate.  Away from home for 6 months I am getting withdrawal symptoms. Oh please give me some Cadburys  :P :P :P :P :P

Sadly cadbury's is now American (kraft). i don't approve of them sending the factories abroad but i suppose thats competition. What do you do? if you refuse to buy it will that mean more british people loosing they're jobs.

Yes, I was one of those people gutted when it changed ownership. I don't want anyone to loose their jobs and I don't want them to change the recipe. However, from the previous posts it sounds as if that may already be happening.  >:(

I'm going to have to go and buy some, just to check  ;)  will be very sad to see Cadbury's lose its unique taste, it is my favourite.  I remember once when hubby and I were young and daft and before kids, we went to mexico and were down to our last few coins on the flight home. we had a stopover in the States and bought a hershey bar, OMG it was so yuk!!! our last few pennies, down the drain that was!

I know, Hershey's chocolate is gross, and tastes like it's about 10 years out of date.

Bionic - Cadbury's does actually taste like the American version (and Australian too).  Someone told me that the British version was made differently to everywhere else so maybe now they are getting all recipes to conform all over to save costs.

I stopped buying any cadbury product when Kraft took it over, which was when all the UK jobs went.   :-\

This is devastating news. I don't often eating chocolate but when I do I like a nice bar of dairy milk, I hope they don't change the recipe on drinking chocolate chunks that is my one thing that gets me through the long winter nights.

Not sure about the American stuff but the Aussie chocolate is really awful. Not sure what they put in it but it's to stop it melting in the hot weather, so it just isn't like what we know as chocolate at all. The Aussies also accept ....... Wait for it.......a certain percentage of.........cockroach in their chocolate!! Blech!
I was also very saddened when Cadbury was sold seems like we have very little British products left. God save Tunnocks!

Cockroach - oh scrumptious  :P :P :D

I had noticed Cadburys seemed not so more-ish recently but thought it was down to my better willpower  :D ha.

Green and Black's Milk - my favourite. Although I think G&B is owned by Cadbury now too. Soon the whole world will be owned by a few huge companies - then there will be us smallholders holding back the flood.

I presume the Bourneville factory and cadbury village is still open, i really don't want to buy it but if it means those people keeping their jobs then i wouldn't stop buying it. I'm actually not chockie myself but i treat my 20 yr old to a huge bar when she's home from uni. If my other half wants to get me a treat then its artichokes in olive oil and king prawns, yum!

It was the same when Nestle took over Rowantree - Kit Kat's just tasted rubbish - cheap chocolate - I felt cheated and quite annoyed - silly I know, but why wasn't it part of the deal that they had to keep the same recipe? >:( >:( >:(

I too have not eaten chocolate for ages and ages but I did notice how Kit Kat Changed, that seems like cheap choc and artifical sweetener so I wounder if Cabury's have done the same? I like it that chocolate is not so nice now, not so tempting!!!!!!!  DO you know this got me thinking, fish fingers are not the same either!!!

Yup, Cadbury bought G&B in 2006-ish.  I do like G&B choc (their 'blue packet' milk is the best milk choc there is, I think) but I am cross with them that they still have not made their choc fairtrade.  They said they needed time to work with their supply chain but this was in 2005...  So these days I am more likely to buy Divine, which is also very good and is - and always has been as long as I have known about it - fairtrade.

I agree that Cadbury's is now more resistable - and am not unhappy about that!  I still like my Crunchies though.

As for Tunnocks, I think British agriculture would grind to a halt without them!

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm Tunnocks teacakes, now I dare not even pass them on the supermarket shelves, sooooooo tempting and if I buy any I HAVE to clear up the box!!! (not had any for at least a year)

Reading this reminds me of one of the "wind-ups" on Real Radio (Scotland edition) last year after Kraft had taken over Cadburys - the presenter had rung a little newsagent asking him if he was aware of the take-over & asked him to count how many Cream Eggs he had in stock... he then went on to give him instructions on how to scoop out the "cream" filling & refill it with Kraft cheese & rewrap it.
The poor bloke swallowed it hook, line & sinker - bless.  BUT IT WAS SOOOO FUNNY TO LISTEN TO  ;) ;D :D ;D

;D ;D, that would be funny!!

I had a cafe with my mum when I was younger and the cleaner from the Market used to come in with orders for tea and snacks etc, bless him he had a speach impediment and said " can I have sum bare tits?" I asked again and was trying not to giggle and asked my mum who also had my sense of humer to come and translate, then it dawned on us, it was Bar Six, those biscuit chocolate bars but we did not have any and me and mum laughed for the rest of the day on and off!!!

i have enjoyed cadbury's dairy milk for over fifty years but no more.  It tasts really cheap and nasty.  Tried twirl and it is just as bad.  Cannot believe we British have lost such a wonderful treat.

I've never been a big chocolate fan. Cadbury has never been a favourite, and i've had Hershey's chocolate in the states. Yuk.

I've seen Hershey bars in the supermarket, just wish they'd get some original Twinkies in.   So wish I could buy some - the larger the packet the better - luckily I'm one of the fortunate people that doesn't put weight on. Hoorah!

I used to love cadbury but no way now.....have found Aldi has Moser Roth Mousse au Chocolat 85% cocoa and have to have two slabs ( 5per pack ) every night while I read for half an hour before bed , better than Green and Blacks.

You'll note that it's now called Cadbury's Dairy Milk and not Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate.

They can't call it chocolate any more otherwisae this would breach Trading Standards Legislation  ;)

Actually, I think the cheap stuff at Lidl is way better than Cadbury's has ever been...

(Goes and hides!  :-[  Sorry, I wasn't born British - you have to have lived in this country forever to like that stuff! But I'm sure Hershey's is worse.)

Btw, I think G&B is made in Italy, anyway - so much for British chocolate... It is very nice, though. (Haven't checked lately, so maybe that has  changed with change of ownership!) If I do buy chocolate, a rare treat, it's generally organic and fair trade. If I restrict myself to that, I don't get tempted too often!  ;D

Actually drove past Aldi today.  How about that for willpower?

OK I had no money with me,

I hate to tell you peeps, but Cadbury's bought Green & Blacks about 8 years ago.  Which presumeably explains why they've never bothered to get themselves Fairtrade accredited. (BOOOOOO)  So I usually choose Divine instead - organic and Fairtrade, just as nice as G&B (though not quite so many different variations), and if they've been bought by Kraft please will nobody tell me  ;)

I now only eat 85% or higher chocolate, so Cadburys is out. I have been munching on some very expensive Hotel Choclat 85%. Yummy. It was a present from my sis.

I like 85% chocolate expecially as you can't eat much at one sitting.
