Hello!
Finally taking the plunge into chickens. We are looking for a few hens (4?).
Nothing too flashy, something easy to maintain and in return for a nice patch to scratch on, provide us with an egg or two.
Help? advice? Birds for sale?
Thanks!!

have a good read on poultry section previous posts lots of info.........neil

Have a look at my post on Blue Egg Layers - one of the replies details a poultry supplier in North Lincs - might be of interest to you...
-
Thank you thank you thank you! :chook:
Anyone speak cat? Need to break the news to the Tabby..........
-
Oh good luck ;D My cats sulked for days when they first met the chooks. One of the Bengals tried to savage a particularly large bird and got a damn good pecking...
-
The most Tabby has ever caught is a large slug, which he deposited on Melissa in the middle of the night (hilarious for me!!!!) and a few moths. He thought the rabbit hanging on the hook the other day was a new friend - he is a bit special!
Its going to be an interesting meeting ::)

dont worry weve got 4 cats dont bother the chooks at all
-
WIth the exception of the Bengals, my cats are scared of the chooks - mind you even I wouldn't tangle with some of my birds.... those beaks are sharp :o
I don't think you will have any problems unless your chickens are really small when you get them - once they are fully grown I'm sure Tabby won't be even remotely interested in them.
BTW - is Tabby a tabby by any chance ;D
-
hahah!
Yes Tabby is a tabby - How did you guess? Original name uh?
;D
-
At least you won't forget it ;D
-
Oh, he gets called a few other names at times!!!
Cooking Fat is quite common :D

Bet you love him to bits though don't you... I think cats are brill 8)

The cat will be useful. Tabby will keep the bad little ratties away from the chicky wickies! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have arrived at this post a bit late, but have you tried shaun at outgate poultry. he will be getting loads of rescue birds in a week or two. perfect for your requirements i would think. ( i am not on commission from him, just thaught he was doing something worthwhile , rescueing chickens and providing a great freerange bird at a good price). i am getting some for us so I can sell a few eggs over the garden gate, and some for a family i know who want to start with a few free range hens for eggs and pleasure. ( which I think is the better part of the deal).
Our cat, boris, is getting on a bit now and sits watching the birds mooch around the garden, I think he enjoys the company. good luck :chook: :cat: :)

Look a\t the Battery hen welfare trust website for details of rehomings close to you. You make a donation of £1. per hen and will receive the friendliest hens imaginable who lay you huge eggs daily!! Now I am biased because I love my girls but have had most breeds and none compare to these, also of course you are doing a wonderful thing in offering these girls a home. All in all feel good factor is great as you tuck into your eggs at breakfast time! :D :D :chook: :horse: :bouquet: :pig:
