Hi Everyone , i just realized i should have introduced myself before jumping in and joining the forum (typical woman) I'm based in the New Forest and have about 200 sheep, 1 ancient horse, a few pigs ( keeps changing, man goes and buys more) and a hubby who has a tractor addiction!
I love the forum, it is really informative and so nice to be able to share problems with other likeminded people

Goodness, you're a bigholder not a smallholder ;D ;D ;D welcome to the forum from a teenyweenyholder (in Clackmannan)

Hi and welcome from north Cumbria. We farm beef & sheep and I am a closet smallholder on the side - house cow, native ponies, pig(s), chickens.
-
Hi from Brittany, I have very many happy memories of the New Forest. Which part do you live in?
-
I live in lymington, and our ground is near the marshes near the mouth of the Lymington river. We also rent a lot of ground around Brockenhurst. My hubby grew up farming and it's in his blood but i'm a townie who had to learn everything from scratch. We both work full time Paul contract fencing and i'm at southampton hospital and we farm evenings and weekends really hard work but i wouldn't change it for anything even in the depths of winter.

I love Lymington.

Hi Vicky
Nice to know there is someone nearby, Wiltshire is a lovely county, Salisbury market is our nearest for selling livestock.
-
Ringwood Market used to be the meeting place I think on a Wednesday for livestock and dead stock.
-
I know, Ringwood market is a Waitrose now, shocking isn't it
-
:wave:hi and welcome, from Lillian central scotland
-
I frequent Salisbury market quite often and occasionally work there too.
-
I bet waitrose does not attract anything like as much attention as the market did. Parking along the A31 slipway on a Wednesday morning.
-
I don't like market much, sounds daft but the townie in me doesn't deal too well with selling livestock. OH goes a lot and we sell our sheep there but i prefer to stay at home.I would rather deal direct to customers than through market but i accept they are essential for British agriculture.

When I am in the UK I live in Ringwood. The Wednesday market is still there but it doesn't sell livestock these days. In fact it just the same as any other market. A few plant stalls, meat van too but mostly taken over by cheap clothes/shoes and the pound stall.
If I happen to be there on a Wed I will have a wander but there is nothing to make a special visit for. Its a real shame.

Markets here are much the same, except that they all appear to have a live chicken stall, sometimes live rabbits as well.
