Wanted - A few Blue Egg Layers at POL. Does anyone have (or know anyone who has) blue egg layers for sale in the Staffs / Cheshire area? Particularly interested in hybrids rather than pure breeds.... :chook:

collumbines and fenton blues are two hybrids I know of which lay a blue/ green egg. There is a guy in north lincs, just off the m180 who has some columbines pol I think his business is called outgate poultry. not very close to you, i'm afraid. but it's a start. :chook:

Thanks very much for this - not very close to me but I'm not averse to a trip out now and then :) I have emailed him...

I hope you get sorted. i have a few different blue /green layers in my motley crew and it really brightens up the egg tray.
It may be of interest to all forum readers to know that in early february the outgate poultry guy (shaun) is liberating a batch of commercial free range hens. 14 month old amberlink hybrids, which will still lay prolifically for a good time. He is charging £3.50 a bird, collectable from him in north lincs.( all done on one day for logisticall reasons).
They will be in a much more fully feathered state than the batterry rescue girls, and more hardened to an outdoor lifestyle. Not as honourable as rescueing batt hens, but more likely to succeed. I will be collecting a few for myself and a few for someone else. ;D

Success ;D Shaun has some Columbines for me which I will collect next week. Thank you Carl for the contact - Shaun sounds like a really nice guy.
Can't wait to get my first blue egg - I know it's a bit sad but even after all these years of keeping chooks I still think that finding eggs in the nestbox (regardless of colour) is exciting :)

These are Brilley Blues..very good layers of blue eggs and they breed true.
