:o Yesterday morning I cracked open a 98g egg laid by our buff orpington hen last Thursday (now living with dizzy1pig). Thought I would treat myself as I was sure it would be a double yolker. To my complete astonishment it was a quadruple yolker!! :o :o :o
Of course, in my excitement I burnt everything else in the pan, but the egg was lovely ::) :P

One of our ex bats has laid an egg weighihg 105 grammes today. Just weighed some of the usual size ones and they're 65-70g. I'm dying to see if it's got multiple yolks but somehow I don't want to break it.

It's a great treat getting the double (and more!) yolkers. I used to find I got more of them when the weather was bad - eventually I worked out that if it was rainy or snowy they stayed in and ate their ad-lib pellets, whereas if it was nice they went out and ranged about. Now I only give them as many pellets as I want them to have in the morning and I get regular-sized eggs (and well-exercised and varied-diet hens.) (And yes I give them more during the day if it's horrid and they can't range.)

Ah - now that makes sense - never thought about it before, but we only ever get doublers in the winter - now I know why ;) ;D

I had a double yolk duck egg couple of weeks ago - full sunshine, temperatures around 14/15. I had cracked it into Hester's bowl without checking the weight even though it was larger than the others. Just had a thought about the timing of that. She had a minor stroke a few days later - that couldn't have caused it could it?
