Title: Would anyone like a couple of Welsummer cockerels? Free!!
Post by: pikilily on January 24, 2009, 06:10:53 pm
As you can see from previous addy i do want to get more welsummer hens, but think it would only be fair to also find new homes for a few of the cockerels. At a ratio of 1:1 hen/cockerel we are getting a few squabbles starting. These are the MOST handsome of birds....really magnificent colours and tremendous presence.
cheers pikilily

Hi Emma, your just along the road!! I'm just outside Blairgowrie...small world!!

I've squared it with the girlfriend and she says I can have a cockerel...as long as it doesn't cock a doodle doo too often or too early......  ;D  ;)

So if you would like I can re-home one for you? He'd be coming to a good home.... a lovely delapidated farmhouse outside Blairgowrie with a large garden. I have a new hen house coming this week as my last one is now 5yrs old and need of replacement. I am also going to re-build the 10ft x 15ft run, to make it bigger and fully enclose the top to make it completely fox proof!!

So, if you can hold on to one for a week or so whilst i make the upgrades, i'd love to take one off your hands.

Best wishes,

John.

Wow John that is fabulous!! i am so chuffed. I will hold on to one of them for you. I fact you will probably have the pick of four!. I know which of the six I have i want to keep. Just because I like them not because I am an expert on welsummers. Hey, what this means is we could swap eggs for hatching, which would widen the gene pool.

It is a small world. Now all i need to find is someone with surplus hens!!!!!
Cheers
Emma

Hi Emma, that's great news!! I think Welsummers males look spectacular.

Like i said, i'm in the middle of renewing the coop and run following on from a very bad fox problem towards the end of the Summer. I made some immediate changes that, not pretty to the eye, have solved the problem, but now i need to make it look pleasing on the eye.... hence the new coop and new fencing. I hope to have it done by this coming weekend, time and weather prevailing!?!?! So i could arrange collection from you possibly Sunday next week (Feb 1st) assuming that suits and I am ready in time, or alternatively I could collect the weekend after? With nights being short and by the time I've finished work it may not be a good idea to introduce the newly-weds in the dark, hence weekend collection!!

In any case, let me now what suits. I have yet to hatch any eggs of my own, other than two Khaki Campbell ducks I hatched in my incubator in 2005..... sadly both stolen by the fox!  :'( But i'd be happy to give it a try!
I have found Welsummers very hard to track down around this neck of the woods. I got my last batch of hens in 2004 from near Bridge of Cally via ScotAds, but though i've kept an eye out for more, i've not come across any until now!

I shall PM you my phone number. Feel free to pass your on!

I'll happily provide you with a few bottles of wine (red or white- choice is your's!) in exchange for the cockerel, or alternatively hard cash! Also, i have access to fresh Rainbow Trout if you would like some!

Let me know,

Many thanks,

John.  ;)

Hi  I'd like one, we lost our beautiful hand reared cockerel just before Christmas and it's not the same without him.  Trouble is I live in Leicestershire - do you ever travel this way?

Message to Juliag, I'm looking for a young Welsummer and I'm coming down to Taunton on Saturday, back home on Monday.  Are you near Taunton?

I'm afraid I haven't got enough hens to keep 3 happy; last time we had 3 we had some fighting and had to rehome one - the fox solved the other one.  Our home reared cockerel died just before Christmas and we miss him.  We were going to wait and give some HE to one of the broodies, but I don't want the neighbours to get too used to a quiet environment.  Our run is very near their childrens bedroom window - they never minded before but they might once they get used to the silence at 4am!  We are travelling from Taunton to Westbury on Monday morning - would that be convenient?  Could you pm me and we can exchange details?  How old are they by the way?  Regards
Jane

Hi there,

I've just had a fox attack who choose my welsummer cockeral and I'm searching for a replacement. I know you posted this a month or so ago, but I was wondering if you still had one of your spare cockerals available? I'm based in Taunton and would travel over to collect him.

Cheers,
Naumenski
