Title: Pig movement boards
Post by: The Woodsiders on April 25, 2011, 10:06:47 am
Hi all,I would be grateful for any feed back on Pig movement boards, what are the preferences for either Ply or polyethylene any advantages or disadvantages?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

I would go with plastic every time - it can be scrubbed and power washed and kept clean.

Undoubtedly there will now be a string of replies singing the praises of plywood from the more "traditional" members  :bunny:

Definately the plastic ones - lighter (for us non-butch females  ;) ), longer lasting & more hygienic.

Shame you are in Scotland - the SPKA have some lovely ones  ;)

Just remember - if you are going to use them for showing, you can't have your herd name, website etc on them - no personal advertising allowed  ::)

I think that must vary from show to show - as we have sold loads of customised ones for showing, with Herd Names, telephone numbers, websites etc etc.

Thanks

I was always under the impression (as I'm sure others are) that BPA accredited shows didn't allow personal advertising, but having looked on the BPA website I don't see anything that actually says it - a phonecall to the BPA is needed tomorrow me thinks, just to clear it up. I'll let you know what gets said

JUST OF THE PHONE TO BILL HOWES  YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISPLAY YOUR HERD PREFIX/NAME  WHEN SHOWING AT BPA SHOWS YOU HAVE TO BE ANNONOMUS TO THE JUDGE

I knew I wasn't imagining things  ;D
I suppose there's got to be a way to be sure there's no favouritism going on  ;)
I'm planning on a personalised board for my own use, when at pig displays etc, but for the show's I'll use my SPKA one  ;)

Ok Lillian,

If you REALLY have reached 300 members, then run a competition amoungst them - make it a little stretching, and let me have the Name, address and Herd Number of the winner.

I will send them a pig slapper and 1 Litre of food grade slapper ink Free of Charge with our compliments.

Daft question, maybe, but if you had your advertising/herd information on one side of the board, and that was the side closest to you, would that be acceptable? The other side being plain.

Hi Ambriel,
Your question is not daft at all. There has to be no writing on either side of pig boards that will display herd name, hdl, web, etc. It is against the rules of the BPA.
I do hope that this clarifies your question.
HTH.

I "inherited" two pig boards with my Kune Kune pigs. They are made of wood and weigh nearly as much as I do!! I would happily swap them for something lighter if anyone is interested.

OH makes mine out of 1/2" ply and i seal them with fence stuff and outline a spotty pig on them. We have also seen pig face shaped ones on sale at some of the shows.
