Our sheep - Portlands - seldom make a noise. Is this unusual. The ewes grunt at, and just after given birth (don't we all), and the lambs do the odd 'meheh' but thats it.
-
We've got Ryelands but they vary in how vocal they are. We have a set of twin ewes from last year that are very vocal and very friendly. Others rarely bleat. The lambs don't make a lot of noise probably because a) they are never hungry and b) with only six ewes, they don't get lost.
That's their noisiest time - feeding.

Our Ryelands are fairly quiet -unless a person or car appears, then it is like an ovine version of the dawn chorus!
-
Our badger faced ewes get vocal when they want their tea. otherwise they're pretty quiet.
They've got us well trained and call when they need something. ::)

One of my wiltshire horns talks all the time, we call her rover the dog sheep because she seems more like a dog the way she runs up to us and whoever docked her tail left it quite long so she wags it like a dog. Her baa is quite deep and begins to sound like nagging sometimes!
