Hi all,

 Whilst having a bit of quality pig time today i found some lice on the back of a couple of my pigs, this is the first time Ive come across this and was a bit unsure as to where they would have come from and more importantly what would be best to do about this?

 I read on the forum past posts about cooper spot-on being top stuff to use but as all the shops are shut till Tuesday and i am stuck as to what to use, i read that olive oil or similar is a good treatment but i was wondering with the weather being so hot and the sun very strong would this result in deep fried crackling :o

 Also is it a coincidence that the 3 pigs affected are the ones that refuse to wallow in the mud, all the others make a bee line for the mud as soon as the temperature gets up Ive tried churning a patch over for them, like what the others have made for themselves but theses 3 young boars arnt interested at all :-\

Any answers would be much appreciated

Wallowing would help them.

You need a louse powder to eradicate them - one that is ok for pigs.

Do you have any frontline for dogs, its ok for an emergency.

Hi,

Im sure it does, but I dont think a few lice are a critical enough emergency that couldnt wait a few days for the shops to open so that the correct product can be bought.

This is one thing that really gets me going, when a product that is not intended, licenced, or tested on a species of animal is recommended for use.

For instance, is there a withdrawl period for pigs? when using Frontline for Dogs? and are there any adverse reactions to watch out for?

As Smallholders, surely you wish to look after your livestock in the best possible manner, using the correct tested products? or am I wrong on that assumption?

But I knew you would post in it........ and tell us how you get rid of lice by applying DDT thickly using an emulsion roller  :wave: :bunny:

What do you use to worm your pigs? If you use panamec injections it will kill external and internal parasites which i find the best option but injecting can be tricky if you've never done it, i use a slapshot with an injection gun with toploader for the bottle.

I have wimped out of going down the injection route and have gone with the wormer added to the feed instead as its very easy to use :D
