We've been given some chicks (5) from a friend - who's daughter's school have incubated & brooded them. The little monkey used her dinner money & changed the permission form and brought home 9, rather than the 4 they agreed to!
However, we have no idea what breeds they are, nothing quite like anything we've hatched before...
Any suggestions gratefully recieved :D

RIR x Sussex ??? Just a guess as they look a little like our RIR x Orpington/Sussex that we hatched this year :D
-
thats a start, thanks!
We don't even know if they are from the same eggs (if you know what I mean!)

Ooh, Little Blue ....they could turn into Emus or Ostriches .....now that would make your neighbours stare. You should not guess, just wait and see. It will be a nice surprise for you - and I hope there are no cockerels in there ;D

The white one's cute!
It's a bit hard to tell what they'll turn into yet though. For example, they're not a million miles off being Hubbards even!:

schools do miss a trick. imagine if they had got rare breed eggs specific to that area, the history can be really interesting and they could really increase the numbers of enthusiats. but well done to the school for allowing it. ours dont, the chicks just make a flying (excuse the pun) visit to the nursery.
our sussex dont have that shaped head. iv no idea but look from diff parents!! will be a suprise

Also our LS usually show a bit of black in their feathers by that stage.
-
the light sussex we hatched are showing the darker feather tips .. we think there's about a weeks difference. So they're probably not LS
Lisa, I agree... I want to do some incubating at the school I work at, but there are concerns due to the nature of the (SEN) kids, and lack of secure place to keep them. But I'm working on it!

great! thanks! ;)
we've put our hatchlings in with them today - good as gold really, when you think how feathers fly when you mix older birds!
I'll get some more pics NormandyMary, just for you ;D
