Post by: kanisha on April 15, 2011, 01:07:11 pm
Hi does anyone have any experience of using this as a method of identification? It is likely this is the type to be adopted for Ouessant sheep in france

Apparently according to all the companies I phoned last year, while it is authorised, no companies are making them as there are growth and welfare issues ::) If they were available I for one would be using them!

We already have a derrogation not to use tags before six months for ouessants and I notice some of the old photos have pastern bands on them. My solution would be to only band them if they were leaving the property  for some reason but to use management tags from a young age so the two would work quite well. From what I understand the issue here is not for finding a manufacturer but in getting approval although I think this will come as bands are on the aproved list.

Well for the first time this year I am tagging my Ouessant lambs at a week old with the small non eid tag from Allflex and using that as an id tag.....so far so good!
