Title: thick umbilical dripping blood.
Post by: Elissian on April 14, 2011, 09:51:47 pm
Many of you will already know this but for those , like me that have never seen it before;
I had a lamb born with a short, really thick umbilical that dripped blood all over the floor, quite alarming, i ran to get a freezer bag clip sprayed it with iodene and clamped the chord. Luckily for me my daughters friend who is doing an agri course turned up 5 mins later, she took hold of the base of the chord between thumb and forefinger and sqeezed the blood out of the end. It was really obvious when she showed me but i didn't think of it at the time.

strangely enough the chord has completely dropped off whereas all my older  lambs have shrivled ones.
