You may find some of this disgusting - I did. We knew the owner and were unable to say or do anything until she was convicted. You will see a Brittany. They keep saying spaniel; but they aren't spaniels and need an awful lot more free running than a spaniel. It is the smaller light brown and white dog. The RSPCA, of anyone, should know that Fen is a Brittany - an HPR, not a spaniel, and that Labradors are YELLOW NOT Golden. They wouldn't let the Club OR her breeder find a suitable home for Fen, said they were perfectly capable of doing so themselves. I do hope Fen's new owners try to find out about the breed. The RSPCA think they are God. They refused help from the Labrador Club as well.

I was shocked to see the state they were in :o
i don't normally watch it but turned it on today and about turned it off. i too noticed the breed mistakes.
I wonder why they didn't contact a breed rescure for Fen ??? - easy re-homeing i suppose
I think the worst part, excuse me if im starting a riot, but i didin't agree with them releasing the foxes especially 7 at once, to many for one area :-\

Cameron, we contacted the RSPCA, that's what I said they wouldn't let either us or the Lab club rescue arm help rehome the dogs. Specialist organisations - turned down completely out of hand. I don't think they should raise the fox cubs at all. This is where they have got it all wrong.
-
I think that they just account for what makes them look good, not what will benifit the dogs most. To me it felt that they were almost boasting about having an unusual breed in as a rescue.

Just shows you what some people can hide!
-
Seems like the RSPCA has lost the plot. Please don't confuse them with the SSPCA which is completely seperate.

She hid it well, all right - on our committee, smart as a bandbox, not a hair out of place, beautifully made up and perfumed, very intelligent lecturer at a university in England.
Yes, I agree, Rosemary, SSPCA is great - totally different concept from the other organisation.

So was the house just used as a giant (filthy) kennel and she lived elsewhere?
-
Just watched it Annie - absolutely shocking :o
I can't believe she's only been banned from keeping dogs for 12 months too!
Just to add to the suffering of the dogs they were kept, what 8-months ? in the RSPCA kennels until she was prosecuted - what a b***dy appalling policy - why could they not have been fostered-out by the Breed Rescues ??? I don't understand it, it's just like the dogs had to serve a sentence. What did the RSPCA think was going to happen - the dogs fail to attend & give evidence or something >:( they had all they needed to prosecute the woman >:( I can understand not re-homing - just in case by some technicality she'd have got off with the charges, but why make the dogs suffer further >:( She should have served the 8-months not the dogs.
Aargh!!!!! >:(

Poor things, not sure how they were looked after in the kennels for all that time and I agree, they looked like dogs that could easily be fostered out. I always think about humans and as I worked in child protection like others on here, I cannot help thinking about all the families who also live in squaller, then get taken into care and a lot of them stay in care homes as they are too difficult or not cure enough to get fostered out, at least dogs should not get the same level abuse in care as some children have!!!!!! Not sure how they came up with that sentence either, banned for 12 mths? should never be allowed animals again!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, she lived tehr too. The gardens were totally overgrown so they were never out in it. The neighbours only ever saw the Brittany and one yellow lab being walked to the end of the cul de sac and back - about 5 minutes, but could smell the house. One neighbour broke a window not long before she was reported just so the dogs could have air.

Yes, we all felt the same - but nothing we could say made any difference. The dogs had to be kept until after the conviction - and in fact until after the appeal period too. She pled not guilty to start with and only changed her plea at the last minute so perhaps that was why. We were amazed she only got 12 months community service, ban fro 12 months form keeping animals, and £12000 fine - it seemed the Judge couldn't get away from the number 12! There were 14 dogs and 5 birds taken out, 3 dogs had to be put to sleep, don't know what happened to the birds as they were in a mess too. Just been watching today's programme - a chap with horses only got 28 days sentence and 100 horses were rescued, some dead or dying - where is the justice we and these animals are entitled too?
-
& Britain's supposed to be a Country of animal lovers ???

The bit I find unbelievable is that a woman chose to live in that vile place as well as to keep the poor dogs and birds there. How could she cook and eat and sleep and live and breathe like that ??? How could she go out and meet people and them not notice that she must have been stinking of dog urine and faeces ???
-
No she wasn't. That is what shocked all of us when we got the phone call. We had only seen her four days before at our Club weekend (she was on the committee), and our President and I (was visiting her at the time and I took the call from the police) were in complete shock - total disbelief. We think she must have been showering and changing at uni. It's teh only way she could have done it we think.
-
Surely she must be mentally ill - no-one in their right mind would behave like that.
Years ago (off topic a bit) one of my then staff, an attendance officer, called at a house about a child not attending school. She couldn't get an answer so called for back-up. The house was full of rabbits. Dozens and dozens and dozens of them. All inbred, sh!tting all over the place - it was disgusting. Police called, SSPCA etcetc. The woman was ill - but it was a nice private house on a nice estate. I suspect we have no idea what goes on in some folks' houses.

Ill ::) sick in the head more like :o People like that just make me so mad >:( especially in the case of the type that was involved with the programme Annie highlighted.
Some people are not intentionally cruel & do things through ignorance or naivity, but THAT WOMAN was in a position to have NO EXCUSE >:( >:( >:( in fact she abused her position in the Club & betrayed the trust of decent, honest dog lovers. She gave those poor dogs & the birds a miserable life, then the RSPCA just excerbated the situation for them ??? >:(

It makes me so angry that people like this get away with their crime. As you say she should be locked up for the 8 months not the dog. Sad to say this goes on all over the country. Up our way at the moment its dog fighting, a couple of dead bull terrier type dogs dumped dead at the side of the road. A fine is too easy to pay as they will get the money. :o
