Title: Smallholding Insurance
Post by: NorthEssexsmallholding on April 06, 2011, 10:39:42 pm
I need to get some insurance cover for my smallholding, does anyone know a good company to use?  Any idea of rough costs, as I'm just starting up I will only have 1 acre of crops and some chickens and I estimate the cost of fixed items to be under £1000 to start with.  If I have public Liability insurance with my job does that cover me on the smallholding as well?

Don't think your public liability from your job will cover what you need.  Specialist smallholding broker www.ottery.co.uk (http://www.ottery.co.uk) but obviously look around for the best package & price.

wouldnt go past NFU.  local office makes a huge difference and they have some fab household insurance that also covers you for working from home

I moved to NFU in January.  You need separate insurance than for your work - I already have professional indemnity cover separately with Towergate but their price to add cover for buildings/public liability for a self employed person working from home was nowhere near as good as NFU.
