Title: Putting new with the old
Post by: jippers87 on April 06, 2011, 08:04:07 pm
Hi all!

At the moment we have just two lovely chuck chucks who provide us with at least 2 (often 3) beautiful eggs almost every day!

They are the first chickens I owned and were left to me by a friend who moved away.

We want to buy some more chickens soon. What is the recommended procedure when adding new chickens to the old lot?

We want to get day olds at some point but also want to buy older ones for eggs straight away.

How should I go about introducing them?

Thanks in advance!

Agree with that, but also isolate new ones for a week or so to make sure they don't carry anything.  And Day olds will have to be in a brooder for a few weeks, then only in with the others when big enough to fend for themselves.  Same procedure, put them in after dark.
