opened the henhouse this morning to find a dead chook! looks as if she simply died on the perch, she was lying on the dropping board.
i was at work last night, buy OH assures me that they where all alive when he did the head count and goodnight thing.
she's a white star, and has been laying daily right up to yesterday.
i wonder what happened to her!!
it was thundering during the night, do you think it was fright? is that even possible?
-
:'( Oh thats a shame, always upsetting when that happens, I 've had a couple like that, just die
-
Yes, it could have been a scare - heart attack maybe? Chooks sometimes just die for no apparent reason.

Same thing happened with one of my ex bats yesterday. Fine the night before dead in house next morning no idea why..
-
strange, isn't it?
i suppose it is better than being poorly, but then, what if she was, and i didn't notice?
but she was laying, and in death shows no sign of ill health ???
-
Sorry to hear about your hen, but I must say, death is pretty serious ill health.
-
Lol I agree must've been poorly but no outward sign. Still quick and painless I think and a happy but short rescue life. Not all bad she could've been culled 2 yrs ago.
-
I had one die just by the gate, she was leaning on the gate post, like she just stopped walking - her eyes were bright and her feathers were shiny - who knows? Sad, but like you say, better than being ill.
