Over at our feed suppliers today - we received a warning that in the North Ayrshire/Inverclyde/Renfrewshire area there is currently a spate of aluminium farm gates being lifted off their posts - leaving livestock to wander the roads >:(
The thieves are not just stealing gates, apparently anything metal - machinery, guttering is being taken :o
Get your padlocks out folks !!!

Get your padlocks out folks !!!
Not metal ones though!
;)
-
That's awful :o
There's alot of money in scrap metal right now. I guess we should all be on our guard.

That reminds me of an incedent when my youngest daughter was a local radio presenter with her best friend who was head boy at the time, I tuned in and they brought the local news saying, " there has been a spate of door bell thiefts" then added the police are making door to door enquiries and they laughed uncontrolably and so did I, the whole studio went quiet...it was very funny at the time!!
-
Still is ;D ;D
-
I wonder if they got any answers? ;D
-
Don't upset the theives, the might take afence ,,,groan
-
Oh "wooden"'t that be a shame ;D ;D
-
;D ;D ;D ;D Funny how those little jokes keep on making you laugh, re: my bit, I knew she was about to read the news and I was fostering a girl who fancied the head boy, so we rushed to record the programme on the radio, sat down and that speach happend, the timming was so good and they had to put music on to drown out the giggles!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Joking apart, what IS safe these days!!! such a worry to farmers, maybe the gates should be made from some thing no re usable when taken off, ??? ??? No sorry, no joke springs to mind!!!
-
What about "accidentally" attaching the energiser to the gate - oops :D
or
Self destructing gates that detonate when lifted off their hinges ;D
-

Good one Annie ;) ;D ;D ;D

What about attatching the gate to every thing with very strong wire, the shed, the bull, the tractor and the wild bore!
-
Paint them pink! (One farm nearby has all its gates the most vivid shade of blue! - All gates still there)
-
Goos idea. Was once talking to a policeman friend when a pink car went by - 'that'll never be stolen' he said.
-
You just need to make it a bit awkward to get the gate off the hinges. If they have to spend time taking it off they'll move on to the next one.
-
Thats a good point, me and mum had a cafe and it took lots of £, mum and dad put a lock on the spare bedroom to keep takings in etc, they were advised not to, anyway, they did get broken into one night when they were out but the thief spend a lot of time trying to get into the locked bedroom he ran off and never took anything, the money was left in bags on the kitchen table, not in the room he was trying to get into!!!
-
Yes, top hinge pin upside down - will slow them down a bit. Like the idea about painting them though.
"Intent? No, yer Honour, I've got a caravan now!"
-
gate theft here in Derbyshire ..... MINE!!!
Wrought iron, police finally been - suspect "scrap metal" (in the middle of the night)
And of course, they are just out of range of our security cameras & lights (Grrrr!!)
Top hinges willl be upside- down, chained & painted bl**dy fluorescent pink!!
-
Bl***y bar stewards :o
As if you didn't have enough going on at the mo Ruth - I do hope they get caught >:(
