Im looking to sow an area of grass for some chickens :chook:, what sort of seed mix is best to use? IS there any specific type of mix that I should use that will be suited to this purpose. Presumably a mix thats hardy as well as nutritional for grazing (or pecking :))
SOil type is sandy loam but heavier towards the headland.
ANy help is much appreciated.

Hi
we have just ordered some seeds for free range poultry pasture as we have cleared a run and want to put it back to greenery. I will pop a link on for the company we used. Our seeds will arrive Monday. It should give you an idea of what would be good to use.

We bought the diverse poultry mix as we are back garden hen keepers so needed 10kg but you can get the economy one if you needed loads

We just use standard lawn grass(not that we re-seed much) as grass never really stays long in the chook run what ever type.
Depending on the area you could try planting small conifers or pampas grass?
