Title: chickens vs nettles
Post by: bloomer on March 23, 2011, 10:32:02 am
i need to move my chicken run further from the house to make the place easier to sell

the only place i can see to put them is currently sprouting with quite a few nettles, will they be any problems for the chooks or will they just dig them up same as everything else?

Mine have nettles in their run, they don 't seem to bother much with them and they haven't done them any harm.  Good luck selling the house.

Mine are the same. The chooks have certainly curtailed the growth of the nettles but the nettles are still well and truly there! I think the chooks eat the really fresh young growth, and may do some damage to the root system, but by and large the chooks leave well alone! ;)

And all that nitrogen  from droppings help the nettles grow ;D 'Tis a never ending cycle.
